Jesus, Christianity, & President Trump

First off, this is not meant to answer all of the questions that people have right now with everything going on in the world. However I do want to address many of the questions that I have seen many times from many different people.

How can Christians, especially Pastors support Donald Trump as President?

First off, I do not agree with many of the pastors in the country who have proclaimed Donald Trump as the hero of America. I have seen many of them in the media proclaim that God “ordained” Donald Trump to be the next President. Do I think that God can use Trump for his purposes? Yes, but I believe God can do this with every leader because I believe that God is sovereign over all, but there is nothing special about Trump he is just a man. Many Christians look at his stance on certain issues not on his morality which leads us to the next question.

Would Jesus approve of President Trumps morals?

No! President Trump is not a moral man, but he has never claimed to be one. He has been married multiple times because he cheated on his first wife, and then didn’t make his second wife a priority, but let us not forget about that lovely video that was leaked where he said he touched women inappropriately. That is NOT ok. It is NOT moral.

How can Christians overlook President Trumps moral failures?

Many Christians look to his stances on issues such him supporting Pro Life causes. I will not say that he IS Pro Life because he has changed his stance multiple times, but now he at least supports the Pro Life cause. Also morality wasn’t a big issue for Christians this election. Many of you are thinking how can Christians not be worried about morality in this election? But morality in Christianity went out the door years ago as it concerns to Presidential elections. Christians have been worried on the whole more about someone who they can partially agree with compared to someone who has morals beyond reproach.

Did all Conservative Evangelical Christians support Donald Trump during his campaign?

No. Evangelicals were highly divided because of his morality. Those who overlooked his morality rode high on the Donald Trump train. Those who couldn’t overlook it also saw Hillary Clinton just as flawed so they wrote in a candidate or voted third-party.

How do we go forward?

We pray. It is that simple. Prayer is more powerful than marching or calling your representatives because at that point you are talking to the one who created the entire universe. However still let your representatives know where you stand and make your voice heard.

Blessings,

Matt PHenix
